Заимствуя название от одноименной работы Кэрри Мэй Уимс, представленной на выставке, она состоит из фотографий, приобретенных музеем в течение последних 40 лет при поддержке Роберта Б. Меншела и рассказывает историю фотографии с момента её зарождения.
Охватывая более чем 150-летнюю историю – от Парижа, запечатленного в 1843 году отцом английской фотографии Уильямом Генри Фоксом Тальботом, до снимков американца An-My Lé с военных учений США, проводимых в рамках подготовки к войне в Ираке и Афганистане – выставка подчеркнуто демонстрирует равное внимание к прошлому и настоящему, показывая, что одно невозможно без другого; и что каждое поколение самостоятельно переосмысливает фотографию. Благодаря Меншелу, с момента его вступления в Комитет по Фото МоМА в 1977 году, коллекция музея пополнилась более чем на 500 работ, включая 162 фотографии из личной коллекции Меншела, недавно подаренные им музею.
