Wim Wenders wrote that “old cowboys are the saddest and most touching figures.” I think that a lonesome, middle-aged, losing hair man humbly waiting in a coin laundry shop for a cycle to complete can easily compete with Wenders’ cowboys. There is something intrinsically sad about public coin operated laundries, a part of home comfort taken to the streets to be sold by quarters to comfortless strangers. No way I could pass this scene without snapping a picture.
